The Latest Show

Everybody has a lot in common with each other.
A great equalizer, like hurricane Ike, makes such  a possibility, a possible
and real.

What can we do  to make a difference when confronted by such a challenge .

Hear us out:

Small is Beautiful.

We CAME We SAW and we WERE CONQUERED (Our Hearts).4th December 2008

Rise To It was represented. Thanks, to their overnight blitz volunteer plea, by 28 people sharing their holiday with
the 1500 low income/homeless, etc survivors of Ike in Galveston.

Volunteers came from Tx, Calif, Arkansas and Kentucky.  We ranged in age from

9 years old to 70+.We were able to create with the help of the young pre-teens

and teen volunteers to man and organize a kidz corner.  (Thanks to donations

from Central Market and generosity of the volunteers and donors who could not

make the trip).  We also were able to pull off a coupe of musical entertainment.

Cd’s from the Houston Library were spun (so to speak) by Charlie a music major

from California who took  a sabatical from his degree studies to dedicate one year of

humanitarian services in Galveston.  We were paid back for the trip…making new

friends amongst the grateful guests  who won us over with their joy and thankfulness

for the camaraderie  and the food. It was particularly impressive how the organizers of

the banquet made for kings and queens and princesses met such an impressive

accomplishment.   These individuals organized by church group, West Point,  for the

first time, catered a dinner so large and so impossible under such inconveniences

that the hurricane has left them with.

All did their part with unison and without previous practice and assignments.  It was an

impressive day and it was hard to leave.  It was one of those holiday celebrations that

you did not want to see end. We all shared one thing in common.  We want to do more.

And can’t wait to be able to roll up our sleeves.(When we can figure out how to work this

blog we will post the pictures and audio interviews of the day)

Thank you residents of Galveston Island and the surrounding peninsulas that got

their with the buses provided by the churches of the island for giving us the opportunity

to make new friends and to see your smiling faces.
