Dr. Karriem Ali
Dr. Karriem Ali has more than 20 years experience training an analogical mind upon a systems-based understanding of the numerous vital processes and medicinal agents which impact individual human health. As an undergraduate in the Department of Chemistry at Harvard, his initial research involved organic synthesis of phorbol ester tumor promoters, in the interest of comprehending and reversing the progression of human cancer.
Dr. Ali also holds an M.D. with Distinguished Honors in Research from Stanford University where he continued his work in Quantum Organic (biomolecular recognition) and Medicinal Chemistry in the NIH-Stanford M.D.-Ph.D. Program in Cancer Biology, before extending his research activities into Clinical Pharmacology and Intensive Care.
A Board Certified Diplomate in Medicine, Dr. Ali completed a Multidisciplinary Transitional Internship (Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Psychiatry, Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatrics and Nutrition) at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San José, CA, before entering residency training in Anesthesia, Intensive Care & Pain Management at the Stanford University Hospitals.
Dr. Ali was born in Detroit, Michigan, and attended a highly-selective school for the gifted for all 12 years of his primary and secondary school education. He then went on to matriculate at Harvard University, where he received an A.B. degree in Chemistry (Organic) prior to earning an M.D. degree with Distinguished Honors in Research from Stanford University. His thesis focus being the quantum chemical basis of molecular recognition, Karriem was invited to be a Visiting Scholar at the Washington University School of Medicine following the second year of his research at Stanford.
Recruited in the 90’s to do bioprospecting work with Shaman Pharmaceuticals, Karriem left Stanford to lead medical ethnobotany research & discovery expeditions in the Amazon, Chocó, and Mayombe rainforests of South America and Africa, and in the subtropical montane grasslands of Tanzania. He has since taught, toured, and worked in 32 countries in rainforest, savannah, village, city, and island environments— including lecture tours of Europe and India at the invitation of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to work with the teachers of Deepak Chopra.
